The prideful live rich lives but are not satisfied.
How can they equal the frugal man who lives as a pauper
but has a surplus.
The able exert themselves but reap the hostility of others.
How can they equal the inept man who lives in idleness
but consummates *Truth.
*Rites are something created by vulgar society.
Truth is something received from Heaven; it is
Of-Itself-So, and does not change. Thus, the
sage governs himself according to Heaven, and
respects truth. He is not influenced by the vulgar.
