And outwardly do not calculate the feeling of the other.
Then a spoonful of grain will equal the blessings of a
hundred bushels.
When your actions benefit another,
If you measure your own charity
And press the other for recompense,
Then a thousand in payment have scarcely the merit of a
few coins.

「感謝を期待するな」
人に恩恵を施す場合には、恩着せがましい
気持を現したり、相手の感謝を期待するよ
うな態度を見せてはならない。そうすれば、
たとい米1斗の施しでも百万石の値打ちを
生む。
人に利益を与える場合には、効果を計算
したり、見返りを要求してはならない。そんな
ことをすれば、たとい百金を与えたとしても、
一文の値打ちもなくなる。
●人生は回り舞台。いつ立場が変わるかわか
らない。だが、施すときには、おのずから施す
ときの心得がある。これもまた人間学の基本の
一つと言ってよい。
