Emotion, desire, consciousness of self-these are the
thieves of internal.
Only when the Old Man who is master,
Bright of mind and unobscured by desire,
Sits alone within the temple,
Will the thieves be transformed into servants of the

「内外の賊」

目で見、耳で聞く刺激は外から侵入する賊、
心に芽生える欲望や雑念は内なる賊である。

のように扱うことができる。

●わが心の本体さえしっかりしていれば、外賊
にも内賊にも惑わされることはないのだという。
そのためには、ふだんの修養に待つほかない。
